Intensity sails for Albacores? Anyone interested?

Here at the Michigan Sailing Club we've been researching cost-effective replacement sails for our Albacores (the club owns two, and there are two privately-owned albs). We've had good luck with using Intensity for replacement Laser sails and I've been in contact with them about Albacore sails.

They'd need an order of ten to make it work for them. Our club is probably good for three suits if we can find another seven to go in on the fleet purchase.

Anybody else interested?

I don't have too many details at this point about construction, cut (e.g. high- or low-aspect jib), etc, but Intensity is thinking about $500/set. If there's sufficient interest I can find out more, but I don't want to bug them until I know there's enough interest to do an order of ten.

Let me know if you're interested. We're flexible enough to do it this season or wait until the off-season.

Great. I will keep you in the loop. I've had several bites via emails and I think we may have the requisite ten orders.

I'll pursue this with Intensity and post updates to this forum, but it will probably play out over several months rather than days.

UPDATE:

Intensity has made a sample suit for evaluation. They'll be shipping them to us soon. It looks very likely that suits will be available for purchase by June or so, but no promises yet. I'll keep this forum in the loop as things progress, or you can join the google group for more details: albacore-intensity@googlegroups.com

Here's the latest update:

We received a prototype suit of sails from Intensity; Barney Harris and Mike Heinsdorf have inspected and sailed with them. Overall, the result was very positive, but Barney and Mike had some suggestions for improvement. Based upon their feedback, Intensity is now making a second prototype.

I don't have a timeline for when this second suit will be delivered, but hopefully soon. I'll keep the email group posted as this develops. If all goes as planned, we will soon have the option of purchasing good-quality, affordable, class-legal sails from Intensity.
