how to re-attach and seal my bailers

Postby Dylan V » Sat Mar 03, 2012 1:20 am

I was looking for someone to send me photos and discuss how they attached and sealed their stern bailers?

Transom flaps come in a wide variety of sizes and shapes, so unless you tell us more about your current arrangement (i.e. post a picture of your transom) I can't say all that much.

That said, here's a few hints:

the "hinge" should be gasket material that allows the flap to move around freely instead of being a fixed hinge.

Weather stripping around the perimeter of the flap works reasonably well if you use shock cord to hold the flap securely closed.

Don't obsess about zero leakage - that part of the boat shouldn't be submerged when you're sailing anyway (if it is, you're sitting too far back).

Ok thanks I was going to thread a piece of line through the hull and the Lexan cut out. Seal it ( didnt think of weather stripping) :? and then use shock cord to hold them closed....

Thanks :D
